Blankets, Swaddles and car seats

NEVER wrap or swaddle a baby in their car seat. This can impact the effectiveness of the harness leading to serious injury or death in the event of a car crash.

Since 2013 manufacturers of car seat have been mandated to include this in their manuals since the tragic death of a baby in Queensland in 2011 who was thrown from her capsule after being swaddled prior to the harness being put on. This includes NEVER using sleeping bags in car seats. even those advertised with ' buckle' holes. The sleeping bags can prevent the one step release from the car seat.

If you do need to keep baby warm in the car seat, place their blanket OVER the harness once they are correctly buckled in.
